Form Check: The Pushup. For those of you doing unmodified pushups, are you keeping true to form? Are you maintaining that beautiful plank or worming up off your knees because it’s for time? If someone took a video of your pushups, would your pushups be referred to as poopy or pretty? Let’s break it down:
1. Plank. Ass and abs engaged.
2. Chest to deck. All.the.way.down.
3. When coming back up, squeeze those glutes. Your knees should NOT come in contact with the ground (unless scaling to knee pushups). Focus on having your quads lift off the ground first.
4. Elbows: Where are they? Are they at at 90 degree angle away from the body? If so, you are internally rotating your shoulders (aka-poopy shoulders). Keep the elbows tucked in ~45 degree angle from your side.
5. Finish: Full lockout at the top of your pushup with the insides of your elbows facing forward.
Boom. Yes, it’s one of the basic movements you first learned in foundations, so there is no excuse for poopy pushups. Form check 1-5 every damn day to keep ‘em pretty.
Check out Brad above mid-pushup… near the end of last week’s community wod, and after already doing a sh*tload of pushups. Nice work Brad!
